What is one of the most often used word in media at the moment? – Yeah, you’re right: It’s “crisis”. Whenever you hear news it is about the Debt Crisis, the weak Euro, the struggling of countries like Greece and Spain and so on.
What we don’t hear are the good news, so I would like to give you some: There is progress. There are people willing to break and create things – and they are motivated. The second Startup Live in Athens for instance is just one example for that. Another example is an event, which took place on the Wednesday, 30th of May, in the European Parliament in Brussels.
The topic of the event, hosted by the Vice Presidents of the European Parliament Othmar Karas from Austria and Anni Podimata from Greece was: “Social, Economic and Financial Crisis – how to create synergies and find ways out of the crisis”. The two Vice Presidents invited 30 Austrian and 30 Greek students to Brussels and asked STARTeurope to give a workshop, where the students tried to find solution for the major problems we are facing at the moment.
In an interesting panel discussion with the two Vice Presidents, some renowned economics professors and Andreas Tschas, our CEO, the challenges we are facing were outlined and the students presented the conclusions of the workshops: Greece needs innovation in form of new ideas and less barriers for founding new companies. With enough persistence and European thinking we will find the right way out of the crisis.
The message for STARTeurope is clear: Political decision makers understand more and more, that startups are one absolutely necessary factor to solve the problems we are facing. They are the innovation engine Europe needs. This is the reason why we are organising more than 25 Startup Lives in Europe this year. We want to keep the engine going.
This shows that we are on the right track and motivates us to intensify our efforts to activate more entrepreneurial thinking, to organise more and better events and to be the good news creator.
